They are in the area around Grafton Notch State Park in the Mahoosuc Mountains of Maine.Jamie Flint and her son and crew are called in with their K-9 partners when the 10 women mysteriously disappear from their camp. A huge group of trained people and dogs look for the women in wintry conditions, finding that someone has fired into the camp, wounding two of the women.I enjoyed this second story in the Flint K-9 Search and Rescue series, after THE DARKEST THREAD. I did feel (like I did in the first book) that the author tried to add too many elements to the story. There was a lot of repetition and it took me a while to read through the wordy story. But I still liked the separate elements - Jamie herself; her son Bear; Ren, the young Nigerian refugee; the many dogs. And I liked the setting in the wild Mahoosuc Mountains.Oh, and the supernatural elements from the first story continue in this one.
